At first the canvas is prepared by treating the cloth in a special way by applying mud coating on both sides and then dried and polished. Intricate designs are painted using natural or organic colors. The brushes are also prepared from animal hair and plant fibres.  Another form of painting is the Talapatachitra where the Palm leaves form the base which is dried first and with the help of needle the designs are engrossed on these palm leaves.
