For someone that had never been around a garden, much less a greenhouse, getting one for our backyard was scary. My husband compromised with me and we bought a small Blackline greenhouse to just try a little gardening and make sure that this was really something we wanted to do. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I have enjoyed learning how to do greenhouse gardening! It is exciting to play in the dirt and plant things and watch them grow into wonderful vegetables and fruit that you eat. It has really given me a better understanding of where my food comes from.

You don’t have to look long to find fun backyard greenhouses these days. However, I would caution anyone looking into purchasing a green house because it does take commitment to learn this type of gardening. You have to be prepared to fail a few times as you figure it out. Personally, I am so glad we did it but I have to admit that I do wish now we had bought a larger one. I guess that’s just the way it goes sometimes.

The Chinese Elm bonsai, or the ulmus parvifolia, is a very nice bonsai that can serve as either an indoor bonsai or an outdoor bonsai. This great, twisted little tree looks like it has been around for ages, when in reality it isn’t that old. It features tiny little evergreen leaves and exposed roots. One of the best things about the Chinese Elm bonsai is that it’s great for shaping the branches into different designs. It’s also a pretty hardy bonsai and will thrive in different types of weather.

When it comes to pruning your bonsai to help it maintain its shape, there are several different methods to use. Of course, you will want to prune away old growth, and you do that during the mid-fall. New growth can be done using your fingers—just pinch it back. However, with the Chinese Elm and several other types of bonsai, you may actually want to use scissors. If the growth is fairly aggressive, trim it back at the shoots instead of simply pinching or cutting off the end. Just be aware that using scissors can cause the foliage and leaves to turn brown, while pinching them off can make them look a bit more natural.

I had never heard of a post cap until my mother-in-laws recent visit to our home. I was telling her about how I hated the way our fence looked and wished there was a way to revive it that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. When she suggested I look at a post cap I’m sure she got a deer-in-the-headlights look from me! She immediately sat me down in front of the computer and took me to one of her favorite outdoor product stores and showed me pictures.

Duh. So I looked through all the choices and found some very nice wooden ones that ended up working out great. I also found a wonderful pineapple finial that I bought as well to go on top of the cap. I collect pineapples because they are a very traditional way to welcome people into your home and I love that! I am so pleased with the way my fence now looks and my husband was pleased at how easy they both were to install. My mother-in-law came through again and I must say I love her for that!

If you get the decorating bug, but feel like you can’t afford to revitalize your interior space, you might want to consider adding creative elements to your yard. There’s an amazing amount of affordable outdoor décor items on the market. And, big box retailers aren’t your only alternative for finding stores that sell outdoor décor items. Most towns and cities have small lawn and garden businesses, and they are increasingly adding outdoor décor items to their inventory. However, one of the best places to shop for these items is online. Just log onto your computer and you’ll find plenty of boutique online stores with a healthy supply of everything from hammocks to sundials to romantic gazebos.

For our affordable outdoor makeover, we ordered more than half of our items online. We focused on garden décor. Our purchases included a decorative bronze sundial, several window box planters, two dragonfly whirligigs, a cedar potting bench, a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, a few decorative stones and plaques and an old locomotive bell. I also bought two patio umbrellas on sale a local discount store. In the end, we spent about $250 to beautify our yard and gardens. Yet, they look like a million dollars.

American artist Charles Wysocki is well known to every cat lover for his whimsical collection of cat characters. In Remington the Horticulturist Cat Throw, he shows a handsome orange tabby cat asleep in a cool and shady garden shed. He is comfortably ensconced in a box of seed packets atop a potting bench. Surrounding him is all the paraphernalia of gardening: rakes, hoes, shears, trowels. There is an assortment of antique watering cans, sacks of seed, pots, even a flowered garden hat. The stone floor of the shed is strewn with straw; groups of mushrooms poke through the gaps in the floor. A glimpse of a sunny day is shown through a small window. This peaceful scene is rendered in Wysocki’s trademark folk art style and impeccable detail. Now this charming scene can be yours – as a throw. It will add style and warmth to any room and makes the perfect gift for the cat lover on your list.

Remington the Horticulturist Wysocki cat throw can be found at Decor4u.com in the Blanket Shop under the Wysocki Cat Throw Collection. It is crafted in the USA from 100% high-quality cotton and measures 70 inches wide by 54 inches high. It is easy to care for: just toss in the washer and dryer.

We have two jet skis and a trailer but we’ve been spending so much to have them stored for the winter that we have not wanted to consider purchasing another machine and upgrading to a bigger trailer since storage costs will jump considerably (or at least that’s what my husband says.) So I did what any gal would do who is tired of having her jet ski monopolized (did I mention we have a teenage son?) I decided to find a way to increase our storage space and yet eliminate our storage expense, thus justifying purchasing a third machine and bigger trailer. This 12×20 metal building has been a fantastic solution.

There is ample room for the jet ski’s, the trailer and a lot of other things that have been competing for space in the garage through winters past. Now we can keep the lawn waste dumpster out of sight and put the grill inside during the winter months. Not to mention it has been wonderful to be able to just pull in and park the bikes versus hefting them up and down from hooks in the garage rafters since that was the only space available for them. Metal buildings have undergone some great improvements and are more durable than in the past. I’m very happy we invested in one.

From one of the most prominent names in art, this tapestry was my first purchase to hang up on my walls. This impressionist painting is a must have for art collectors and art admirers alike, as it is one of the most beautiful pieces of art out there. The use of color is truly unique and was never duplicated to the same degree after Monet. This piece, Monet’s Irises tapestry placed anywhere in the house, will instantly become a conversation starter while also providing magnificence to any scheme of home decor.

This piece is such a timeless classic that it has helped me design one of the rooms in my home around it’s grandeur. Everyone has commented to me about how lovely the piece is, and I certainly earn points when guests who know their art compliment me on my good taste. Wall art is an investment that brings the colors of any painting to life which also will last for many years of enjoyment. Still to this day, this is the favorite piece of art I have in my home, and I would suggest purchasing this tapestry as I’m sure you will feel the same way.

I was taking a walk with a friend in her neighborhood not to long ago when something unusual caught my eye. I immediately stopped and went over to check it out and see what was shinning so beautifully. It was at that moment I discovered copper post caps. The people living in the home had these wonderful post caps on every post that made up their deck. The copper not only glistened in the sun but made a stunning outline distinguishing each tier and they used some additional natural copper pieces as accents as well. It was a delicious sight for the eyes.

I knew that I wanted something similar to use on my fence posts surrounding my lovely garden. In looking for the perfect style for my chosen décor, I found several great post caps selections to choose from and had never even thought about using them before! Of course they come in many different sizes and you will be able to find something that will work within your budget as well. Post caps are fantastic for that special “touch” of class when you need one and so easy to use.
